Syntropic Medical is driving a revolution in the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder by pushing the boundaries of what was previously possible. Pharmaceutical antidepressants have long been a below par treatment standard with poor treatment outcomes and high rates of side effects. Syntropics groundbreaking research has led to the discovery of an entirely new method of treatment that targets the underlying causes of mental health disorders.Syntropics debut product is a non-invasive, wearable device for the treatment of depression. We activate the immune cells of the brain with stimulation delivered through the eyes to achieve faster and longer relief from depressive symptoms and eliminate adverse drug reactions. We are on a mission to transform the lives of those suffering from one of society's most debilitating diseases.We are looking for a Product Development Engineer to join our growing team. You will play a key role in building a cutting edge technology at the forefront of an exciting frontier of neuroscience. Your Responsibilities:
  • Develop and mature technology concepts for the treatment of depression and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Identify user needs through participation in the project start-up phase where interaction with key opinion leaders, clinicians and other experts worldwide is crucial to realise our innovation targets.
  • Concept development of groundbreaking products within the product area of neurotechnology (e.g., wearable devices, electronic devices, connected devices, etc.)
  • Translate technology concepts into tangible prototypes ready for feasibility testing through product design and development.
  • Perform bench testing and other functional tests to verify technical feasibility of electronic prototypes.
  • Creating, reviewing, and updating detailed designs of components and assemblies of the device, including specifications, bill of materials, 3D CAD models, part and assembly drawings, and associated documentation for design controls
  • Carry out documentation following GDP and in accordance with regulations from FDA/MDR/ISO
  • Cooperate with external and internal partners to take concepts from prototype stage to production ready stage.

  • Advanced qualification in a science/technology/engineering discipline (e.g., biomedical, electrical, mechanical, electronic, product/industrial design, or similar)
  • 2+ years professional experience in product development and prototyping, preferably for medical devices, wearables, or similar complex systems
  • Experience building functional prototypes with competency in system design, PC board fabrication, 3D design and printing, system assembly, and other prototype development activities
  • Broad technical understanding and knowledge of engineering principles and design methods
  • Understanding of electrical safety standards for the development of electrical devices (e.g., IEC 60601)
  • Proficiency with product design and 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CREO, Fusion 360 or similar
  • Experience performing bench testing and other functional tests to verify technical feasibility of electronic prototypes with compliance to latest regulatory standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills (circuit design tool experience is a plus e.g., Altium)
  • Technical writing skills and experience with design control processes
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities for collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to relocate to Vienna, Austria for duration of employment
  • EU citizen or existing Austrian red-white-red work permit holder
Desirable Attributes:
  • Previously worked in a medical device or neurotech company or startup
  • Proven experience in product design, development and validation testing for medical devices and/or neurotechnology devices (e.g., EEG, wearables, neuromodulation, neurostimulation, or neurofeedback devices)
  • Strong understanding of neurotechnology and interest in future trends in this space
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations and standards (e.g., ISO13485, FDA21CFR part 820, ISO14971, ISO10993)
  • Experience with 3D printing, additive manufacturing methods and good understanding of design for manufacture
  • Experience with human factors, usability engineering and/or UX design
  • Understanding of intellectual property and previous patent filing experience
  • Knowledge of biocompatible materials selection for medical devices
  • Successfully taken a product from concept to product launch
