Welcome to our team!The Max Perutz Labs bring together the groups working in molecular biology at the University of Vienna. In order to intensify the collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna in the field of molecular biosciences, the Max Perutz Labs were founded in 2005. We maintain high-tech research infrastructures at two neighbouring locations, where around 450 scientists from more than 40 nations work in basic biomedical research in more than 45 research groups.RequirementsSpecific RequirementsYour personal sphere of play:The Ameres Lab is looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Senior Scientist to lead, support and coordinate research projects in RNA biology. The position includes responsibilities for practical and theoretical teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and RNA Biology.The Ameres lab is an internationally competitive, innovative, and creative research group investigating fundamental cellular mechanisms in the regulation of gene expression and RNA metabolism by combining genome-wide transcriptomics approaches with cutting edge genetic, molecular and biochemical assays.Your future tasks:The successful candidate will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration. This involves initiating, planning, coordinating, and supporting research projects and scientific studies in RNA biology, publishing in international journals, giving lectures and seminars, contributing to practical and theoretical teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in Biology/Molecular Biology, taking over organizational responsibilities in the lab and the institute and getting involved in occasional public outreach activities.This is part of your personality:
  • PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field
  • Excellent understanding of and prior experience in the areas of RNA Biology, molecular mechanisms of (post-transcriptional) gene regulation and related biological processes
  • Strong expertise in genetic engineering, cell culture, transcriptomics, NGS, basic molecular biology and biochemistry. Bioinformatics skills are beneficial.
  • Strong publication record and scientific track record.
  • Strong motivation to lead, support, and provide feedback on projects in the lab.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students; mentoring and practical supervision of Master/PhD students.
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills; German skills are beneficial.
  • Team player with high social/communication skills
  • Experience in science communication and public outreach is beneficial.
